Advent reflection Day 2
Opening Prayer for each day
Lord of light and the darkness,
May your Spirit guide our preparations for Christmas.
Help us to seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day.
In our anxiety may we look forward to your coming among us and be blessed by the joy of your presence.
When we feel as if we are walking in darkness may we see your light as we say,
“Come, Lord Jesus!” Amen.
Psalm 72.1-4
Refrain: The Lord is king; let the earth rejoice.
Give the king your judgements, O God, and your righteousness to the son of a king.
Then shall he judge your people righteously and your poor with justice.
May the mountains bring forth peace, and the little hills righteousness for the people.
May he defend the poor among the people, deliver the children of the needy and crush the oppressor. Amen. Amen.
This psalm was to be seen by the Jews as a vision of the anticipated Messiah. We can easily recognize Jesus in these verses and recall his reception in Nazareth and the rejection of his message when he quoted the prophet Isaiah, ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor’.
May your kingdom come, O God,
with deliverance for the needy,
with peace for the righteous,
with overflowing blessing for all nations,
with glory, honour and praise
for Christ, the only Saviour.

God will speak peace to his people, to those who turn to him in their hearts.
