Collect for the Second Sunday in Epiphany

Almighty God,
in Christ you make all things new:
transform the poverty of our nature by the riches of your grace,
and in the renewal of our lives
make known your heavenly glory;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Intercessions

Gracious God, your Son Jesus began his ministry at a wedding celebration and through the miracle of the wine showed us the abundance of your wonderful love for us. May Jesus continue to transform the water of our everyday lives into the new wine of your kingdom on earth, transforming by his love the ordinary into the extra-ordinary. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Father God, we pray for all who live under the threat of war and terrorism and the poverty which comes in its wake. We remember the situation in Afghanistan and Syria. Govern the hearts and minds of all world leaders and those in authority that they may act justly, honestly and according to your will. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Everlasting Father, we pray for those who are suffering during the coronavirus pandemic. We remember those in hospitals and nursing homes, for the medical staff who are working long hours under pressure. We pray for those who are isolated, lonely and suffering from psychological complaints; for those whose livelihoods have been affected economically and commercially. Grant wisdom to the government leaders in the decisions they make to contain the virus. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Loving God, we remember those known to us who have died recently. We give thanks for their lives and all that they have meant to us. We pray for those who have been bereaved by their passing. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Faithful God, as we go out into the world we pray that we may reflect your love in our families, our church and our community; may the world witness that we are followers of Christ and share with others his loving care.
Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

A Prayer for Epiphany

We are drawn to your feet in worship
Your creation facing its creator
Hearts laid bare by your light
Humbly asking for your mercy.
We come to you as a people in need
of assurance and forgiveness.
We come to you as a people in need
of healing and wholeness.
We come dependent upon your love.
Draw us close.
Enfold us in your arms.
Fill us with your Spirit
that we might reflect your light
within this dark world,
speak your Word with boldness
and draw others to your feet.
We ask this through your dear Son Jesus Christ.
Amen
.

The Blessing

The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen.
