The Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity

Be guided in your home worship with this written service on the Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity.

This service includes the readings for today, prayers and intercessions, a psalm, hymns and an anthem. Should you wish to listen to our sermons, you can find recent sermons here.

Let us start by remembering Ukraine with this prayer:

A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them.  We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen

Opening Prayer

Almighty God, whose only Son has opened for us a new and living way into your presence: give us pure hearts and steadfast wills to worship you in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

The Readings

Thou knowest, Lord,

The Intercessions

Heavenly Father, we come to You in Your House seeking Your comforting and healing presence. In these times when everything around us is changing, and becoming increasingly impersonal, perhaps inhuman, we turn to You, Who change not, and pray for Your strength and guidance in the coming times of uncertainties and unease on many sides.

We pray at this time particularly for King Charles whom You have now called to take on the responsibilities of the throne, with its multitude of worldly obligations to perform, conflicting interests to reconcile. Give him the strength and wisdom to be a sound guide to his government, to be a witness to Your purposes of love for Your creation.

As the country prepares for the Funeral of Her Majesty the Queen tomorrow, we thank you for the great outpouring of love, respect and humility now being shown to her and to the royal family, as a response to just those qualities she herself showed to the world.
Lord in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the world, for the ongoing and potentially disastrous conflicts between world powers, the great uncertainties with climate changes, the increasing use of drugs of all kinds, and the increasing reliance on automation and social media, threatening to destroy personal and family bonds;
Lord in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the Church world-wide, the spiritual body of Christ, and its many divisions;
and especially for the Church of England at this time with internal differences continuing to divide it; we pray for all its bishops and clergy with the great burden of leadership., praying particularly for our bishops, Robert, David, and Dick, and for Fr. Bruce and Robert;
Lord in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all in distress at this time, thinking particularly of those suffering from the atrocities being perpetrated in the Ukraine and the many other war-, conflict- and repressed areas in the world;
we pray for all sick and suffering; the mentally ill, the lonely, and the bereaved;
We pray particularly for our own congregation, for those on our Chaplaincy Prayer List, and for those for whom we personally wish to pray …

Comfort, O God, all in distress, relieve them from their suffering if it be Your will,
and lift them up in Your everlasting arms;
Lord in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the souls of the faithful departed this life in the faith of Christ,
may they rest in Your peace and awake to a joyful resurrection.

Heavenly Father, we know not what the future holds in store for us and the world, but You have promised to provide light in the darkness for those who trust in You, and the faith that You will guide us along the narrow path to You;
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of Your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen

Closing Hymn

Closing Prayers

Almighty God, whose only Son has opened for us a new and living way into your presence: give us pure hearts and steadfast wills to worship you in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen.
