Cymer Abbey

In our pilgrimage we travel to the remains of the abbey near the village of Llanelltyd and in the mouth of the Mawddach Estuary. The abbey was founded in 1198, Cymer Abbey, Kymer deu dyfyr means ‘meeting of the waters’. A small stream runs south of the cloister and through the refectory, and the site is on the banks of the River Mawddach and lies just above the merging the River Wnion with the Mawddach.
